his face, 10:5His ways are prosperous at
all times; As for all his adversaries, he sneers
at them. 10:7His mouth is full of cursing,

and my cup. 16:6The lines have fallen to me
in pleasant places. 16:7I will bless Yahweh, who has
given me counsel. 16:8I have set Yahweh always
before me. 16:9Therefore my heart is glad,
and my tongue rejoices. 16:10For you will not leave my
soul in Sheol, 16:11You will show me the path
of life. In your right hand there are pleasures forevermore. Psalm 17 A Prayer by David. 17:1Hear, Yahweh, my righteous
plea; 17:2Let my sentence come forth
from your presence; 17:3You have proved my heart; you
have visited me in the night; 17:4As for the works of men, by
the word of your lips 17:5My steps have held fast to
your paths, 17:6I have called on you, for you
will answer me, God: 17:7Show your marvelous
lovingkindness, 17:8Keep me as the apple of your
eye; 17:9From the wicked who oppress
me, 17:10They close up their callous
hearts. 17:11They have now surrounded us
in our steps. 17:12He is like a lion that is
greedy of his prey, 17:13Arise, Yahweh, Confront him, cast him down. From men of the world, whose portion is in this life. You fill the belly of your cherished ones. 17:15As for me, I shall see your
face in righteousness; Psalm 18 For the Chief Musician. By David the servant of Yahweh, who spoke to Yahweh the words of this song in the day that Yahweh delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul. He said, 18:1I love you, Yahweh, my strength. 18:2Yahweh is my rock, my
fortress, and my deliverer; 18:3I call on Yahweh, who is
worthy to be praised; 18:4The cords of death surrounded
me. 18:5The cords of Sheol were round
about me; 18:6In my distress I called on
Yahweh, He heard my voice out of his temple, 18:7Then the earth shook and
trembled. 18:8Smoke went out of his
nostrils. 18:9He bowed the heavens also,
and came down. 18:10He rode on a cherub, and
flew. 18:11He made darkness his
hiding-place, his pavilion around him, 18:12At the brightness before
him his thick clouds passed, 18:13Yahweh also thundered in
the sky, 18:14He sent out his arrows, and
scattered them; 18:15Then the channels of waters
appeared, 18:16He sent from on high. 18:17He delivered me from my
strong enemy, 18:18They came on me in the day
of my calamity, 18:19He brought me forth also
into a large place. 18:20Yahweh has rewarded me
according to my righteousness. 18:21For I have kept the ways of
Yahweh, 18:22For all his ordinances were
before me. 18:23I was also blameless with
him. 18:24Therefore Yahweh has
rewarded me according to my righteousness, 18:25With the merciful you will
show yourself merciful. 18:26With the pure, you will
show yourself pure. 18:27For you will save the
afflicted people, 18:28For you will light my lamp,
Yahweh. 18:29For by you, I advance
through a troop. 18:30As for God, his way is
perfect. 18:31For who is God, except
Yahweh? 18:33He makes my feet like
hinds' feet, 18:34He teaches my hands to war; 18:35You have also given me the
shield of your salvation. 18:36You have enlarged my steps
under me, 18:37I will pursue my enemies,
and overtake them. 18:38I will strike them through,
so that they will not be able to rise. 18:39For you have girded me with
strength to the battle. 18:40You have also made my
enemies turn their backs to me, 18:41They cried, but there was
none to save; 18:42Then I beat them small as
the dust before the wind. 18:43You have delivered me from
the strivings of the people. A people whom I have not known shall
serve me. 18:45The foreigners shall fade
away, 18:46Yahweh lives; and blessed
be my rock. 18:47Even the God who executes
vengeance for me, 18:48He rescues me from my
enemies. 18:49Therefore I will give
thanks to you, Yahweh, among the nations, 18:50He gives great deliverance
to his king, Psalm 19 For the Chief Musician. A Psalm by David. 19:1The heavens declare the glory
of God. 19:2Day after day they pour forth

language, 19:4Their voice has gone out
through all the earth, In them he has set a tent for the sun, 19:6His going forth is from the
end of the heavens, 19:7Yahweh's law is perfect,
restoring the soul. 19:8Yahweh's precepts are right,
rejoicing the heart. 19:9The fear of Yahweh is clean,
enduring forever. 19:10More to be desired are they
than gold, yes, than much fine gold; 19:11Moreover by them is your
servant warned. 19:12Who can discern his errors? 19:13Keep back your servant also
from presumptuous sins. Then I will be upright, 19:14Let the words of my mouth

fallen, 20:9Save, Yahweh; Psalm 21 For the Chief Musician. A Psalm by David. 21:1The king rejoices in your
strength, Yahweh! 21:2You have given him his
heart's desire, Selah. 21:3For you meet him with the
blessings of goodness; 21:4He asked life of you, you
gave it to him, 21:5His glory is great in your
salvation. 21:6For you make him most blessed
forever. 21:7For the king trusts in
Yahweh. 21:8Your hand will find out all
of your enemies. 21:9You will make them as a fiery
furnace in the time of your anger. 21:10You will destroy their
descendants from the earth, 21:11For they intended evil
against you. 21:12For you will make them turn
their back, 21:13Be exalted, Yahweh, in your
strength, Psalm 22 For the Chief Musician; set to "The Doe of the Morning." A Psalm by David. 22:1My God, my God, why have you
forsaken me? 22:2My God, I cry in the daytime,
but you don't answer; 22:3But you are holy, 22:4Our fathers trusted in you. 22:5They cried to you, and were
delivered. 22:6But I am a worm, and no man; 22:7All those who see me mock me. 22:9But you brought me out of the
womb. 22:10I was thrown on you from my
mother's womb. 22:11Don't be far from me, for
trouble is near. 22:12Many bulls have surrounded
me. 22:13They open their mouths wide
against me, 22:14I am poured out like water. My heart is like wax; 22:15My strength is dried up
like a potsherd. You have brought me into the dust of death. 22:16For dogs have surrounded
me. 22:17I can count all of my bones. They look and stare at me. 22:18They divide my garments
among them. 22:19But don't be far off,
Yahweh. 22:20Deliver my soul from the
sword, 22:21Save me from the lion's
mouth; 22:22I will declare your name to
my brothers. 22:23You who fear Yahweh, praise
him! 22:24For he has not despised nor
abhorred the affliction of the afflicted, 22:25Of you comes my praise in
the great assembly. 22:26The humble shall eat and be
satisfied. 22:27All the ends of the earth
shall remember and turn to Yahweh. 22:28For the kingdom is
Yahweh's. 22:29All the rich ones of the
earth shall eat and worship. 22:30Posterity shall serve him. 22:31They shall come and shall
declare his righteousness to a people that shall be born, Psalm 23 A Psalm by David. 23:1Yahweh is my shepherd: 23:2He makes me lie down in green

pure heart; 24:5He shall receive a blessing
from Yahweh, 24:6This is the generation of
those who seek Him, Selah. 24:7Lift up your heads, you
gates; 24:8Who is the King of glory? 24:9Lift up your heads, you
gates; 24:10Who is this King of glory? Selah. Psalm 25 By David. 25:1To you, Yahweh, do I lift up my soul. 25:2My God, I have trusted in
you, 25:3Yes, no one who waits for you

teach me, 25:6Yahweh, remember your tender
mercies and your lovingkindness, 25:7Don't remember the sins of my
youth, nor my transgressions. 25:8Good and upright is Yahweh, 25:9He will guide the humble in
justice. 25:10All the paths of Yahweh are
lovingkindness and truth 25:11For your name's sake,
Yahweh, 25:12What man is he who fears
Yahweh? 25:13His soul shall dwell at
ease. 25:14The friendship of Yahweh is
with those who fear him. 25:15My eyes are ever on Yahweh, 25:16Turn to me, and have mercy
on me, 25:17The troubles of my heart
are enlarged. 25:18Consider my affliction and
my travail. 25:19Consider my enemies, for

in my integrity. 26:12My foot stands in an even
place. Psalm 27 By David. 27:1Yahweh is my light and my

Yahweh, that I will seek after, 27:5For in the day of trouble he
will keep me secretly in his pavilion. 27:6Now my head will be lifted up above my enemies around me. I will offer sacrifices of joy in his tent. 27:7Hear, Yahweh, when I cry with
my voice. 27:8When you said, "Seek my
face," 27:9Don't hide your face from me. You have been my help. 27:10When my father and my
mother forsake me, 27:11Teach me your way, Yahweh. 27:12Don't deliver me over to
the desire of my adversaries, 27:13I am still confident of
this: 27:14Wait for Yahweh. Yes, wait for Yahweh. Psalm 28 By David. 28:1To you, Yahweh, I call. 28:2Hear the voice of my
petitions, when I cry to you, 28:3Don't draw me away with the

my soul from Sheol. 30:4Sing praise to Yahweh, you
saints of his. 30:5For his anger is but for a
moment; Weeping may stay for the night, 30:6As for me, I said in my
prosperity, 30:7You, Yahweh, when you favored
me, made my mountain to stand strong. 30:8I cried to you, Yahweh. 30:9"What profit is there in
my destruction, if I go down to the pit? 30:10Hear, Yahweh, and have
mercy on me. 30:11You have turned my mourning
into dancing for me. Yahweh my God, I will give thanks to you forever! Psalm 31 For the Chief Musician. A Psalm by David. 31:1In you, Yahweh, I take
refuge. 31:2Bow down your ear to me. Be to me a strong rock, 31:3For you are my rock and my

spirit. 31:6I hate those who regard lying
vanities, 31:7I will be glad and rejoice in
your lovingkindness, 31:8You have not shut me up into
the hand of the enemy. 31:9Have mercy on me, Yahweh, for
I am in distress. 31:10For my life is spent with
sorrow, My strength fails because of my iniquity. 31:11Because of all my
adversaries I have become utterly contemptible to my neighbors, 31:12I am forgotten from their
hearts like a dead man. 31:13For I have heard the
slander of many, terror on every side, 31:14But I trust in you, Yahweh. 31:15My times are in your hand. 31:16Make your face to shine on
your servant. 31:17Let me not be put to shame,
Yahweh, for I have called on you. 31:18Let the lying lips be mute, 31:19Oh how great is your
goodness, 31:20In the covert of your
presence you will hide them from the plotting of man. 31:21Praise be to Yahweh, 31:22As for me, I said in my

was heavy on me. Selah. 32:5I acknowledged my sin to you. I said, I will confess my transgressions to
Yahweh, Selah. 32:6For this, let everyone who is
godly pray to you in a time when you may be found. 32:7You are my hiding place. Selah. 32:8I will instruct you and teach

right. 33:5He loves righteousness and
justice. 33:6By Yahweh's word the heavens
were made; 33:7He gathers the waters of the
sea together as a heap. 33:8Let all the earth fear
Yahweh. 33:9For he spoke, and it was
done. 33:10Yahweh brings the counsel
of the nations to nothing. 33:11The counsel of Yahweh

God is Yahweh, 33:13Yahweh looks from heaven. 33:14From the place of his

times. 34:2My soul shall boast in
Yahweh. 34:3Oh magnify Yahweh with me. 34:4I sought Yahweh, and he
answered me, 34:5They looked to him, and were
radiant. 34:6This poor man cried, and
Yahweh heard him, 34:7The angel of Yahweh encamps
round about those who fear him, 34:8Oh taste and see that Yahweh
is good. 34:9Oh fear Yahweh, you his
saints, 34:10The young lions do lack,
and suffer hunger, 34:11Come, you children, listen
to me. 34:12Who is someone who desires
life, 34:13Keep your tongue from evil, 34:14Depart from evil, and do
good. 34:15Yahweh's eyes are toward
the righteous. 34:16Yahweh's face is against
those who do evil, 34:17The righteous cry, and
Yahweh hears, 34:18Yahweh is near to those who
have a broken heart, 34:19Many are the afflictions of
the righteous, 34:20He protects all of his
bones. 34:21Evil shall kill the wicked. 34:22Yahweh redeems the soul of
his servants. Psalm 35 By David. 35:1Contend, Yahweh, with those
who contend with me. 35:2Take hold of shield and
buckler, 35:3Brandish the spear and block
those who pursue me. 35:4Let those who seek after my
soul be put to shame and brought to dishonor. 35:5Let them be as chaff before
the wind, 35:6Let their way be dark and
slippery, 35:7For without cause they have
hidden their net in a pit for me. 35:8Let destruction come on him
unawares. 35:9My soul shall be joyful in
Yahweh. 35:10All my bones shall say,
"Yahweh, who is like you, 35:11Unrighteous witnesses rise
up. 35:12They reward me evil for
good, 35:13But as for me, when they
were sick, my clothing was sackcloth. 35:14I behaved myself as though
it had been my friend or my brother. 35:15But in my adversity, they
rejoiced, and gathered themselves together. 35:16Like the profane mockers in
feasts, 35:17Lord, how long will you
look on? 35:18I will give you thanks in
the great assembly. 35:19Don't let those who are my
enemies wrongfully rejoice over me; 35:20For they don't speak peace, 35:21Yes, they opened their
mouth wide against me. 35:22You have seen it, Yahweh.
Don't keep silent. 35:23Wake up! Rise up to defend
me, my God! 35:24Vindicate me, Yahweh my
God, according to your righteousness; 35:25Don't let them say in their
heart, "Aha! That's the way we want it!" 35:26Let them be put to shame
and confounded together who rejoice at my calamity. 35:27Let them shout for joy and
be glad, who favor my righteous cause. 35:28My tongue shall talk about your righteousness and about your praise all day long. Psalm 36 For the Chief Musician. By David, the servant of Yahweh. 36:1An oracle is within my heart
about the disobedience of the wicked: 36:2For he flatters himself in
his own eyes, 36:3The words of his mouth are
iniquity and deceit. 36:4He plots iniquity on his bed. 36:5Your lovingkindness, Yahweh,
is in the heavens. 36:6Your righteousness is like
the mountains of God. 36:7How precious is your
lovingkindness, God! 36:8They shall be abundantly
satisfied with the abundance of your house. 36:9For with you is the spring of
life. 36:10Oh continue your
lovingkindness to those who know you, 36:11Don't let the foot of pride
come against me. 36:12There the workers of
iniquity are fallen. Psalm 37 By David. 37:1Don't fret because of
evil-doers, 37:2For they shall soon be cut
down like the grass, 37:3Trust in Yahweh, and do good. 37:4Also delight yourself in
Yahweh, 37:5Commit your way to Yahweh. 37:6He will make your
righteousness go forth as the light, 37:7Rest in Yahweh, and wait
patiently for him. 37:8Cease from anger, and forsake
wrath. 37:9For evildoers shall be cut
off, 37:10For yet a little while, and
the wicked will be no more. 37:11But the humble shall
inherit the land, 37:12The wicked plots against
the just, 37:13The Lord will laugh at him, 37:14The wicked have drawn out
the sword, and have bent their bow, 37:15Their sword shall enter
into their own heart. 37:16Better is a little that the
righteous has, 37:17For the arms of the wicked
shall be broken, 37:18Yahweh knows the days of
the perfect. 37:19They shall not be put to
shame in the time of evil. 37:20But the wicked shall
perish. 37:21The wicked borrow, and
don't pay back, 37:22For such as are blessed by
him shall inherit the land. 37:23A man's goings are
established by Yahweh. 37:24Though he stumble, he shall
not fall, 37:25I have been young, and now
am old, 37:26All day long he deals
graciously, and lends. 37:27Depart from evil, and do
good; 37:28For Yahweh loves justice, 37:29The righteous shall inherit
the land, 37:30The mouth of the righteous
talks of wisdom. 37:31The law of his God is in
his heart. 37:32The wicked watches the
righteous, 37:33Yahweh will not leave him
in his hand, 37:34Wait for Yahweh, and keep
his way, 37:35I have seen the wicked in
great power, 37:36But he passed away, and,
behold, he was not. 37:37Mark the perfect man, and
see the upright, 37:38As for transgressors, they
shall be destroyed together. 37:39But the salvation of the
righteous is from Yahweh. 37:40Yahweh helps them, and
rescues them. Psalm 38 A Psalm by David, for a memorial. 38:1Yahweh, don't rebuke me in
your wrath, 38:2For your arrows have pierced
me, 38:3There is no soundness in my
flesh because of your indignation, 38:4For my iniquities have gone
over my head. 38:5My wounds are loathsome and
corrupt, 38:6I am pained and bowed down
greatly. 38:7For my loins are filled with
burning. 38:8I am faint and severely
bruised. 38:9Lord, all my desire is before
you. 38:10My heart throbs. 38:11My lovers and my friends
stand aloof from my plague. 38:12They also who seek after my
life lay snares. 38:13But I, as a deaf man, don't
hear. 38:14Yes, I am as a man who
doesn't hear, 38:15For in you, Yahweh, do I
hope. 38:16For I said, "Don't let
them gloat over me, 38:17For I am ready to fall. 38:18For I will declare my
iniquity. 38:19But my enemies are vigorous
and many. 38:20They who also render evil
for good are adversaries to me, 38:21Don't forsake me, Yahweh. 38:22Hurry to help me, Psalm 39 For the Chief Musician. For Jeduthun. A Psalm by David. 39:1I said, "I will watch my
ways, so that I don't sin with my tongue. 39:2I was mute with silence. 39:3My heart was hot within me. I spoke with my tongue: 39:5Behold, you have made my days
handbreadths. Surely every man stands as a breath." Selah. 39:6"Surely every man walks
like a shadow. 39:7Now, Lord, what do I wait
for? 39:8Deliver me from all my
transgressions. 39:9I was mute. 39:10Remove your scourge away
from me. 39:11When you rebuke and correct
man for iniquity, Surely every man is but a breath." Selah. 39:12"Hear my prayer,
Yahweh, and give ear to my cry. For I am a stranger with you, 39:13Oh spare me, that I may
recover strength, Psalm 40 For the Chief Musician. A Psalm by David. 40:1I waited patiently for
Yahweh. 40:2He brought me up also out of
a horrible pit, He set my feet on a rock, 40:3He has put a new song in my
mouth, even praise to our God. 40:4Blessed is the man who makes
Yahweh his trust, 40:5Many, Yahweh, my God, are the
wonderful works which you have done, They can't be set in order to you; 40:6Sacrifice and offering you
didn't desire. 40:7Then I said, "Behold, I
have come. 40:8I delight to do your will, my
God. 40:9I have proclaimed glad news
of righteousness in the great assembly. 40:10I have not hidden your
righteousness within my heart. 40:11Don't withhold your tender
mercies from me, Yahweh. 40:12For innumerable evils have
surrounded me. They are more than the hairs of my head. 40:13Be pleased, Yahweh, to
deliver me. 40:14Let them be put to shame
and confounded together who seek after my soul to destroy it. 40:15Let them be desolate by reason of their shame that tell me, "Aha! Aha!" 40:16Let all those who seek you
rejoice and be glad in you. 40:17But I am poor and needy; You are my help and my deliverer. Psalm 41 For the Chief Musician. A Psalm by David. 41:1Blessed is he who considers
the poor: 41:2Yahweh will preserve him, and
keep him alive, 41:3Yahweh will sustain him on
his sickbed, 41:4I said, "Yahweh, have
mercy on me! 41:5My enemies speak evil against
me: 41:6If he comes to see me, he
speaks falsehood. 41:7All who hate me whisper
together against me. 41:8"An evil disease,"
they say, "has afflicted him. 41:9Yes, my own familiar friend,
in whom I trusted, 41:10But you, Yahweh, have mercy
on me, and raise me up, 41:11By this I know that you
delight in me, 41:12As for me, you uphold me in
my integrity, 41:13Blessed be Yahweh, the God
of Israel, Amen and amen.
BOOK II Psalm 42 For the Chief Musician. A contemplation by the sons of Korah. 42:1As the deer pants for the
water brooks, 42:2My soul thirsts for God, for
the living God. 42:3My tears have been my food
day and night, 42:4These things I remember, and
pour out my soul within me, 42:5Why are you in despair, my
soul? Hope in God! 42:6My God, my soul is in despair
within me. 42:7Deep calls to deep at the
noise of your waterfalls. 42:8Yahweh will command his
lovingkindness in the daytime. 42:9I will ask God, my rock,
"Why have you forgotten me? 42:10As with a sword in my
bones, my adversaries reproach me, 42:11Why are you in despair, my
soul? Hope in God! For I shall still praise him, Psalm 43 43:1Vindicate me, God, and plead
my cause against an ungodly nation. 43:2For you are the God of my
strength. Why have you rejected me? 43:3Oh, send out your light and
your truth. 43:4Then I will go to the altar
of God, I will praise you on the harp, God, my God. 43:5Why are you in despair, my
soul? Hope in God! Psalm 44 For the Chief Musician. By the sons of Korah. A contemplative psalm. 44:1We have heard with our ears,
God; 44:2You drove out the nations
with your hand, You afflicted the peoples, 44:3For they didn't get the land
in possession by their own sword, But your right hand, and your arm, and the
light of your face, 44:4You are my King, God. 44:5Through you, will we push
down our adversaries. 44:6For I will not trust in my
bow, 44:7But you have saved us from
our adversaries, 44:8In God we have made our boast
all day long, Selah. 44:9But now you rejected us, and
brought us to dishonor, 44:10You make us turn back from
the adversary. 44:11You have made us like sheep
for food, 44:12You sell your people for
nothing, 44:13You make us a reproach to
our neighbors, 44:14You make us a byword among
the nations, 44:15All day long my dishonor is
before me, 44:17All this has come on us, 44:18Our heart has not turned
back, 44:20If we have forgotten the
name of our God, 44:22Yes, for your sake we are
killed all day long. 44:23Wake up! Arise! 44:24Why do you hide your face, 44:25For our soul is bowed down
to the dust. 44:26Rise up to help us. Psalm 45 For the Chief Musician. Set to "The Lilies." A contemplation by the sons of Korah. A wedding song. 45:1My heart overflows with a
noble theme. 45:2You are the most excellent of
the sons of men. 45:3Gird your sword on your
thigh, mighty one: 45:4In your majesty ride on
victoriously on behalf of truth, humility, and righteousness. 45:5Your arrows are sharp. 45:6Your throne, God, is forever
and ever. 45:7You have loved righteousness,
and hated wickedness. 45:8All your garments smell like
myrrh, aloes, and cassia. 45:9Kings' daughters are among
your honorable women. 45:10Listen, daughter, consider,
and turn your ear. 45:12The daughter of Tyre comes
with a gift. 45:13The princess inside is all
glorious. 45:14She shall be led to the
king in embroidered work. 45:15With gladness and rejoicing
they shall be led. 45:16Your sons will take the
place of your fathers. 45:17I will make your name to be
remembered in all generations. Psalm 46 For the Chief Musician. By the sons of Korah. According to Alamoth. 46:1God is our refuge and
strength, 46:2Therefore we won't be afraid,
though the earth changes, Selah. 46:4There is a river, the streams
of which make the city of God glad, 46:5God is in her midst. She
shall not be moved. 46:6The nations raged. The
kingdoms were moved. 46:7Yahweh of Hosts is with us. Selah. 46:8Come, see Yahweh's works, 46:9He makes wars cease to the
end of the earth. 46:10"Be still, and know
that I am God. 46:11Yahweh of Hosts is with us. Selah. Psalm 47 For the Chief Musician. A Psalm by the sons of Korah. 47:1Oh clap your hands, all you
nations. 47:2For Yahweh Most High is
awesome. 47:3He subdues nations under us, 47:4He chooses our inheritance
for us, Selah. 47:5God has gone up with a shout, 47:6Sing praise to God, sing
praises. 47:7For God is the King of all
the earth. 47:8God reigns over the nations. 47:9The princes of the peoples are gathered together, The people of the God of Abraham. Psalm 48 A Song. A Psalm by the sons of Korah. 48:1Great is Yahweh, and greatly
to be praised, 48:2Beautiful in elevation, the
joy of the whole earth, 48:3God has shown himself in her citadels as a refuge. 48:4For, behold, the kings
assembled themselves, 48:5They saw it, then they were
amazed. 48:6Trembling took hold of them
there, 48:7With the east wind, you break the ships of Tarshish. 48:8As we have heard, so we have
seen, God will establish it forever. Selah. 48:9We have thought about your
lovingkindness, God, 48:10As is your name, God, 48:11Let Mount Zion be glad! 48:12Walk about Zion, and go
around her. 48:13Mark well her bulwarks. 48:14For this God is our God
forever and ever. Psalm 49 For the Chief Musician. A Psalm by the sons of Korah. 49:1Hear this, all you peoples. 49:3My mouth will speak words of
wisdom. 49:4I will incline my ear to a
proverb. 49:5Why should I fear in the days
of evil, 49:6Those who trust in their
wealth, 49:8For the redemption of their
life is costly, 49:10For he sees that wise men
die; 49:11Their inward thought is
that their houses will endure forever, 49:12But man, despite his
riches, doesn't endure. 49:13This is the destiny of
those who are foolish, Selah. 49:14They are appointed as a
flock for Sheol. The upright shall have dominion over them in
the morning. 49:15But God will redeem my soul
from the power of Sheol, Selah. 49:16Don't be afraid when a man
is made rich, 49:17For when he dies he shall
carry nothing away. 49:18Though while he lived he
blessed his soul -- 49:20A man who has riches
without understanding, Psalm 50 A Psalm by Asaph. 50:1The Mighty One, God, Yahweh,
speaks, 50:2Out of Zion, the perfection
of beauty, 50:3Our God comes, and does not
keep silent. 50:4He calls to the heavens
above, 50:5"Gather my saints
together to me, 50:6The heavens shall declare his
righteousness, Selah. 50:7"Hear, my people, and I
will speak; I am God, your God. 50:8I don't rebuke you for your
sacrifices. 50:9I have no need for a bull
from your stall, 50:10For every animal of the
forest is mine, 50:11I know all the birds of the
mountains. 50:12If I were hungry, I would
not tell you, 50:13Will I eat the flesh of
bulls, 50:14Offer to God the sacrifice
of thanksgiving. 50:15Call on me in the day of
trouble. 50:16But to the wicked God says, 50:18When you saw a thief, you
consented with him, 50:19"You give your mouth
to evil. 50:20You sit and speak against
your brother. 50:21You have done these things,
and I kept silent. 50:22"Now consider this,
you who forget God, 50:23Whoever offers the
sacrifice of thanksgiving glorifies me, Psalm 51 For the Chief Musician. A Psalm by David, when Nathan the prophet came to him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba. 51:1Have mercy on me, God,
according to your lovingkindness. 51:2Wash me thoroughly from my
iniquity. 51:3For I know my transgressions. 51:4Against you, and you only,
have I sinned, That you may be proved right when you speak, 51:5Behold, I was brought forth
in iniquity. 51:6Behold, you desire truth in
the inward parts. 51:7Purify me with hyssop, and I
will be clean. 51:8Let me hear joy and gladness, 51:9Hide your face from my sins, 51:10Create in me a clean heart,
O God. 51:11Don't throw me from your
presence, 51:12Restore to me the joy of
your salvation. 51:13Then I will teach
transgressors your ways. 51:14Deliver me from
bloodguiltiness, O God, the God of my salvation. 51:15Lord, open my lips. 51:16For you don't delight in
sacrifice, or else I would give it. 51:17The sacrifices of God are a
broken spirit. 51:18Do well in your good
pleasure to Zion. 51:19Then you will delight in
the sacrifices of righteousness, Then they will offer bulls on your altar. Psalm 52 For the Chief Musician. A contemplation by David, when Doeg the Edomite came and told Saul, "David has come to Abimelech's house." 52:1Why do you boast of mischief,
mighty man? 52:2Your tongue plots
destruction, 52:3You love evil more than good, Selah. 52:4You love all devouring words, 52:5God will likewise destroy you
forever. Selah. 52:6The righteous also will see
it, and fear, 52:7"Behold, this is the man
who didn't make God his strength, 52:8But as for me, I am like a
green olive tree in God's house. 52:9I will give you thanks
forever, because you have done it. Psalm 53 For the Chief Musician. To the tune of "Mahalath." A contemplation by David. 53:1The fool has said in his
heart, "There is no God." 53:2God looks down from heaven on
the children of men, 53:3Every one of them has gone
back. 53:4Have the workers of iniquity
no knowledge, 53:5There they were in great
fear, where no fear was, You have put them to shame, 53:6Oh that the salvation of
Israel would come out of Zion! Psalm 54 For the Chief Musician. On stringed instruments. A contemplation by David, when the Ziphites came and said to Saul, "Isn't David hiding himself among us?" 54:1Save me, God, by your name. 54:2Hear my prayer, God. 54:3For strangers have risen up
against me. Selah. 54:4Behold, God is my helper. 54:5He will repay the evil to my
enemies. 54:6With a free will offering, I
will sacrifice to you. 54:7For he has delivered me out
of all trouble. Psalm 55 For the Chief Musician. On stringed instruments. A contemplation by David. 55:1Listen to my prayer, God. 55:2Attend to me, and answer me. For they bring suffering on me. 55:4My heart is severely pained
within me. 55:5Fearfulness and trembling
have come on me. 55:6I said, "Oh that I had
wings like a dove! 55:7Behold, then I would wander
far off. Selah. 55:8"I would hurry to a shelter from the stormy wind and tempest." 55:9Confuse them, Lord, and
confound their language, 55:10Day and night they prowl
around on its walls. 55:11Destructive forces are
within her. 55:12For it was not an enemy who
insulted me, Neither was it he who hated me who raised
himself up against me, 55:13But it was you, a man like
me, 55:14We took sweet fellowship
together. 55:15Let death come suddenly on
them. 55:16As for me, I will call on
God. 55:17Evening, morning, and at
noon, I will cry out in distress. 55:18He has redeemed my soul in
peace from the battle that was against me, 55:19God, who is enthroned
forever, Selah. They never change, 55:20He raises his hands against
his friends. 55:21His mouth was smooth as
butter, His words were softer than oil, 55:22Cast your burden on Yahweh,
and he will sustain you. 55:23But you, God, will bring
them down into the pit of destruction. Psalm 56 For the Chief Musician. To the tune of "Silent Dove in Distant Lands." A poem by David, when the Philistines seized him in Gath. 56:1Be merciful to me, God, for
man wants to swallow me up. 56:2My enemies want to swallow me
up all day long, 56:3When I am afraid, 56:4In God, I praise his word. I will not be afraid. 56:5All day long they twist my
words. 56:6They conspire and lurk, 56:7Shall they escape by
iniquity? 56:8You number my wanderings. 56:9Then my enemies shall turn
back in the day that I call. 56:10In God, I will praise his
word. 56:11I have put my trust in God. 56:12Your vows are on me, God. 56:13For you have delivered my
soul from death, Psalm 57 For the Chief Musician. To the tune of "Do Not Destroy." A poem by David, when he fled from Saul, in the cave. 57:1Be merciful to me, God, be
merciful to me, Yes, in the shadow of your wings, I will
take refuge, 57:2I cry out to God Most High, To God who accomplishes my requests for me. 57:3He will send from heaven, and
save me, Selah. God will send out his lovingkindness and his truth. 57:4My soul is among lions. 57:5Be exalted, God, above the
heavens! 57:6They have prepared a net for
my steps. They dig a pit before me. Selah. 57:7My heart is steadfast, God,
my heart is steadfast. 57:8Wake up, my glory! Wake up,
psaltery and harp! 57:9I will give thanks to you,
Lord, among the peoples. 57:10For your great
lovingkindness reaches to the heavens, 57:11Be exalted, God, above the
heavens. Psalm 58 For the Chief Musician. To the tune of "Do Not Destroy." A poem by David. 58:1Do you indeed speak
righteousness, silent ones? 58:2No, in your heart you plot
injustice. 58:3The wicked go astray from the
womb. 58:4Their poison is like the
poison of a snake; 58:6Break their teeth, God, in
their mouth. 58:7Let them vanish as water that
flows away. 58:8Let them be like a snail
which melts and passes away, 58:9Before your pots can feel the
heat of the thorns, 58:10The righteous shall rejoice
when he sees the vengeance. 58:11So that men shall say,
"Most assuredly there is a reward for the righteous. Psalm 59 For the Chief Musician. To the tune of "Do Not Destroy." A poem by David, when Saul sent, and they watched the house to kill him. 59:1Deliver me from my enemies,
my God. 59:2Deliver me from the workers
of iniquity. 59:3For, behold, they lie in wait
for my soul. 59:4I have done no wrong, yet
they are ready to attack me. 59:5You, Yahweh God of hosts, the
God of Israel, Selah. 59:6They return at evening,
howling like dogs, 59:7Behold, they spew with their
mouth. 59:8But you, Yahweh, laugh at
them. 59:9Oh, my Strength, I watch for
you, 59:10My God will go before me
with his lovingkindness. 59:11Don't kill them, or my
people may forget. 59:12For the sin of their mouth,
and the words of their lips, 59:13Consume them in wrath. Let them know that God rules in Jacob, Selah. 59:14At evening let them return. 59:15They shall wander up and
down for food, 59:16But I will sing of your
strength. For you have been my high tower, 59:17To you, my strength, I will
sing praises. Psalm 60 For the Chief Musician. To the tune of "The Lily of the Covenant." A teaching poem by David, when he fought with Aram Naharaim and with Aram Zobah, and Joab returned, and killed twelve thousand of Edom in the Valley of Salt. 60:1God, you have rejected us. You have been angry. 60:2You have made the land
tremble. Mend its fractures, 60:3You have shown your people
hard things. 60:4You have given a banner to
those who fear you, Selah. 60:5So that your beloved may be
delivered, 60:6God has spoken from his
sanctuary: 60:7Gilead is mine, and Manasseh
is mine. 60:8Moab is my wash basin. 60:9Who will bring me into the
strong city? 60:10Haven't you, God, rejected
us? 60:11Give us help against the
adversary, 60:12Through God we shall do
valiantly, Psalm 61 For the Chief Musician. For a stringed instrument. By David. 61:1Hear my cry, God. 61:2From the end of the earth, I
will call to you, when my heart is overwhelmed. 61:3For you have been a refuge
for me, 61:4I will dwell in your tent
forever. Selah. 61:5For you, God, have heard my
vows. 61:6You will prolong the king's
life; 61:7He shall be enthroned in
God's presence forever. 61:8So I will sing praise to your
name forever, Psalm 62 For the Chief Musician. To Jeduthan. A Psalm by David. 62:1My soul rests in God alone. 62:2He alone is my rock and my
salvation, my fortress -- 62:3How long will you assault a
man, 62:4They fully intend to throw
him down from his lofty place. Selah. 62:5My soul, wait in silence for
God alone, 62:6He alone is my rock and my
salvation, my fortress. 62:7With God is my salvation and
my honor. 62:8Trust in him at all times,
you people. Selah. 62:9Surely men of low degree are
just a breath, In the balances they will go up. 62:10Don't trust in oppression. If riches increase, 62:11God has spoken once, 62:12Also to you, Lord, belongs
lovingkindness, Psalm 63 A Psalm by David, when he was in the desert of Judah. 63:1God, you are my God. My soul thirsts for you, 63:2So I have seen you in the
sanctuary, 63:3Because your lovingkindness
is better than life, 63:4So I will bless you while I
live. 63:5My soul shall be satisfied as
with the richest food. 63:7For you have been my help. 63:8My soul stays close to you. 63:9But those who seek my soul,
to destroy it, 63:10They shall be given over to
the power of the sword. 63:11But the king shall rejoice
in God. Psalm 64 For the Chief Musician. A Psalm by David. 64:1Hear my voice, God, in my
complaint. 64:2Hide me from the conspiracy
of the wicked, 64:3Who sharpen their tongue like
a sword, 64:5They encourage themselves in
evil plans. 64:6They plot injustice, saying,
"We have made a perfect plan!" 64:7But God will shoot at them. 64:8Their own tongues shall ruin
them. 64:9All mankind shall be afraid. 64:10The righteous shall be glad
in Yahweh, Psalm 65 For the Chief Musician. A Psalm by David. A song. 65:1Praise waits for you, God, in
Zion. 65:2You who hear prayer, 65:3Sins overwhelmed me, 65:4Blessed is one whom you
choose, and cause to come near, 65:5By awesome deeds of
righteousness, you answer us, You who are the hope of all the ends of the
earth, 65:6Who by his power forms the
mountains, 65:7Who stills the roaring of the
seas, 65:8They also who dwell in
far-away places are afraid at your wonders. 65:9You visit the earth, and
water it. The river of God is full of water. 65:10You drench its furrows. 65:11You crown the year with
your bounty. 65:12The wilderness grasslands
overflow. 65:13The pastures are covered
with flocks. They shout for joy! Psalm 66 For the Chief Musician. A song. A Psalm. 66:1Make a joyful shout to God,
all the earth! 66:3Tell God, "How awesome
are your deeds! 66:4All the earth will worship
you, Selah. 66:5Come, and see God's deeds -- 66:6He turned the sea into dry
land. 66:7He rules by his might
forever. Selah. 66:8Praise our God, you peoples! 66:9Who preserves our life among
the living, 66:10For you, God, have tested
us. 66:11You brought us into prison. 66:12You allowed men to ride
over our heads. 66:13I will come into your
temple with burnt offerings. 66:15I will offer to you burnt
offerings of fat animals, Selah. 66:16Come, and hear, all you who
fear God. 66:17I cried to him with my
mouth. 66:18If I cherished sin in my
heart, 66:19But most assuredly, God has
listened. 66:20Blessed be God, who has not
turned away my prayer, Psalm 67 For the Chief Musician. With stringed instruments. A Psalm. A song. 67:1May God be merciful to us,
bless us, Selah. 67:2That your way may be known on
earth, 67:3Let the peoples praise you,
God. 67:4Oh let the nations be glad
and sing for joy, Selah. 67:5Let the peoples praise you,
God. 67:6The earth has yielded its
increase. 67:7God will bless us. Psalm 68 For the Chief Musician. A Psalm by David. A song. 68:1Let God arise! 68:2As smoke is driven away, As wax melts before the fire, 68:3But let the righteous be
glad. 68:4Sing to God! Sing praises to
his name! To Yah, his name! 68:5A father of the fatherless,
and a defender of the widows, 68:6God sets the lonely in families. He brings out the prisoners with singing, 68:7God, when you went forth
before your people, Selah. 68:8The earth trembled. 68:9You, God, sent a plentiful
rain. 68:10Your congregation lived
therein. 68:11The Lord announced the
word. 68:12"Kings of armies flee!
They flee!" 68:14When the Almighty scattered
kings in her, 68:15The mountains of Bashan are
majestic mountains. 68:16Why do you look in envy,
you rugged mountains, 68:17The chariots of God are
tens of thousands and thousands of thousands. 68:18You have ascended on high. You have received gifts among men, 68:19Blessed be the Lord, who
daily bears our burdens, Selah. 68:20God is to us a God of
deliverance. 68:21But God will strike through
the head of his enemies, 68:22The Lord said, "I will
bring you again from Bashan, 68:23That you may crush them,
dipping your foot in blood, 68:24They have seen your
processions, God, 68:25The singers went before,
the minstrels followed after, 68:26"Bless God in the
congregations, 68:27There is little Benjamin,
their ruler, 68:28Your God has commanded your
strength. 68:29Because of your temple at
Jerusalem, 68:30Rebuke the wild animal of
the reeds, Being humbled, may it bring bars of silver. 68:31Princes shall come out of
Egypt. 68:32Sing to God, you kingdoms
of the earth! Selah. 68:33To him who rides on the
heaven of heavens, which are of old; 68:34Ascribe strength to God! 68:35You are awesome, God, in
your sanctuaries. Psalm 69 For the Chief Musician. To the tune of "Lilies." By David. 69:1Save me, God, 69:2I sink in deep mire, where
there is no foothold. 69:3I am weary with my crying. 69:4Those who hate me without a
cause are more than the hairs of my head. 69:5God, you know my foolishness. 69:6Don't let those who wait for
you be put to shame through me, Lord Yahweh of Hosts. 69:7Because for your sake, I have
borne reproach. 69:8I have become a stranger to
my brothers, 69:9For the zeal of your house
consumes me. 69:10When I wept and I fasted, 69:11When I made sackcloth my
clothing, 69:12Those who sit in the gate
talk about me. 69:13But as for me, my prayer is
to you, Yahweh, in an acceptable time. 69:14Deliver me out of the mire,
and don't let me sink. 69:15Don't let the flood waters
overwhelm me, 69:16Answer me, Yahweh, for your
lovingkindness is good. 69:17Don't hide your face from
your servant, 69:18Draw near to my soul, and
redeem it. 69:19You know my reproach, my
shame, and my dishonor. 69:20Reproach has broken my
heart, and I am full of heaviness. 69:21They also gave me gall for
my food. 69:22Let their table before them
become a snare. 69:23Let their eyes be darkened,
so that they can't see. 69:24Pour out your indignation
on them. 69:25Let their habitation be
desolate. 69:26For they persecute him whom
you have wounded. 69:27Charge them with crime upon
crime. 69:28Let them be blotted out of
the book of life, 69:29But I am in pain and
distress. 69:30I will praise the name of
God with a song, 69:31It will please Yahweh
better than an ox, 69:32The humble have seen it,
and are glad. 69:33For Yahweh hears the needy, 69:34Let heaven and earth praise
him; 69:35For God will save Zion, and
build the cities of Judah. 69:36The children also of his
servants shall inherit it. Psalm 70 For the Chief Musician. By David. A reminder. 70:1Hurry, God, to deliver me. 70:2Let them be put to shame and
confounded who seek my soul. 70:3Let them be turned because of
their shame 70:4Let all those who seek you
rejoice and be glad in you. 70:5But I am poor and needy. You are my help and my deliverer. Psalm 71 71:1In you, Yahweh, I take
refuge. 71:2Deliver me in your
righteousness, and rescue me. 71:3Be to me a rock of refuge to
which I may always go. 71:4Rescue me, my God, from the
hand of the wicked, 71:5For you are my hope, Lord
Yahweh; 71:6I have relied on you from the
womb. 71:7I am a marvel to many, 71:8My mouth shall be filled with
your praise, 71:9Don't reject me in my old
age. 71:10For my enemies talk about
me. 71:12God, don't be far from me. 71:13Let my accusers be put to
shame and consumed. 71:14But I will always hope, 71:15My mouth will tell about
your righteousness, 71:16I will come with the mighty
acts of the Lord Yahweh. 71:17God, you have taught me
from my youth. 71:18Yes, even when I am old and
gray-haired, God, don't forsake me, 71:19Your righteousness also,
God, reaches to the heavens; 71:20You, who have shown us many
and bitter troubles, 71:21Increase my honor, 71:22I will also praise you with
the harp for your faithfulness, my God. 71:23My lips shall shout for
joy! 71:24My tongue will also talk
about your righteousness all day long, Psalm 72 By Solomon. 72:1God, give the king your
justice; 72:2He will judge your people
with righteousness, 72:3The mountains shall bring
prosperity to the people. 72:4He will judge the poor of the
people. 72:5They shall fear you while the
sun endures; 72:6He will come down like rain
on the mown grass, 72:7In his days, the righteous
shall flourish, 72:8He shall have dominion also
from sea to sea, 72:9Those who dwell in the
wilderness shall bow before him. 72:10The kings of Tarshish and
of the isles will bring tribute. 72:11Yes, all kings shall fall
down before him. 72:12For he will deliver the
needy when he cries; 72:13He will have pity on the
poor and needy. 72:14He will redeem their soul
from oppression and violence. 72:15They shall live, and to him
shall be given of the gold of Sheba. 72:16There shall be abundance of
grain throughout the land. 72:17His name endures forever. Men shall be blessed by him. 72:18Praise be to Yahweh God,
the God of Israel, 72:19Blessed be his glorious
name forever! Amen and amen. 72:20This ends the prayers by David, the son of Jesse.
BOOK III Psalm 73 A Psalm by Asaph. 73:1Surely God is good to Israel, 73:2But as for me, my feet were
almost gone. 73:3For I was envious of the
arrogant, 73:4For there are no struggles in
their death, 73:5They are free from burdens of
men, 73:6Therefore pride is like a
chain around their neck. 73:7Their eyes bulge with fat. 73:8They scoff and speak with
malice. 73:9They have set their mouth in
the heavens. 73:10Therefore their people
return to them, 73:11They say, "How does
God know? 73:12Behold, these are the
wicked. 73:13Surely in vain I have
cleansed my heart, 73:14For all day long have I
been plagued, 73:15If I had said, "I will
speak thus;" 73:16When I tried to understand
this, 73:17Until I entered God's
sanctuary, 73:18Surely you set them in
slippery places. 73:19How they are suddenly
destroyed! 73:20As a dream when one wakes
up, 73:21For my soul was grieved. 73:22I was so senseless and
ignorant. 73:23Nevertheless, I am
continually with you. 73:24You will guide me with your
counsel, 73:25Who do I have in heaven? 73:26My flesh and my heart
fails, 73:27For, behold, those who are
far from you shall perish. 73:28But it is good for me to
come close to God. Psalm 74 A contemplation by Asaph. 74:1God, why have you rejected us
forever? 74:2Remember your congregation,
which you purchased of old, 74:3Lift up your feet to the
perpetual ruins, 74:4Your adversaries have roared
in the midst of your assembly. 74:5They behaved like men
wielding axes, 74:6Now all its carved work 74:7They have burned your
sanctuary to the ground. 74:8They said in their heart,
"We will crush them completely." 74:9We see no miraculous signs. 74:10How long, God, shall the
adversary reproach? 74:11Why do you draw back your
hand, even your right hand? 74:12Yet God is my King of old, 74:13You divided the sea by your
strength. 74:14You broke the heads of
Leviathan in pieces. 74:15You opened up spring and
stream. 74:16The day is yours, the night
is also yours. 74:17You have set all the
boundaries of the earth. 74:18Remember this, that the
enemy has mocked you, Yahweh. 74:19Don't deliver the soul of
your dove to wild beasts. 74:20Honor your covenant, 74:21Don't let the oppressed
return ashamed. 74:22Arise, God! Plead your own
cause. 74:23Don't forget the voice of
your adversaries. Psalm 75 For the Chief Musician. To the tune of "Do Not Destroy." A Psalm by Asaph. A song. 75:1We give thanks to you, God, 75:2When I choose the appointed
time, 75:3The earth and all its
inhabitants quake. Selah. 75:4I said to the arrogant,
"Don't boast;" 75:5Don't lift up your horn on
high. 75:6For neither from the east,
nor from the west, 75:7But God is the judge. 75:8For in the hand of Yahweh
there is a cup, He pours it out. 75:9But I will declare this
forever: 75:10I will cut off all the
horns of the wicked, Psalm 76 For the Chief Musician. On stringed instruments. A Psalm by Asaph. A song. 76:1In Judah, God is known. 76:2His tent is also in Salem; 76:3There he broke the flaming
arrows of the bow, Selah. 76:4Glorious are you, and
excellent, 76:5Valiant men lie plundered, 76:6At your rebuke, God of Jacob, 76:7You, even you, are to be
feared. 76:8You pronounced judgment from
heaven. Selah. 76:10Surely the wrath of man
praises you. 76:11Make vows to Yahweh your
God, and fulfill them! 76:12He will cut off the spirit
of princes. Psalm 77 For the Chief Musician. To Jeduthun. A Psalm by Asaph. 77:1My cry goes to God! 77:2In the day of my trouble I
sought the Lord. 77:3I remember God, and I groan. Selah. 77:4You hold my eyelids open. 77:5I have considered the days of
old, 77:6I remember my song in the
night. 77:7"Will the Lord reject us
forever? 77:8Has his lovingkindness
vanished forever? 77:9Has God forgotten to be
gracious? Selah. 77:10Then I thought, "I
will appeal to this: 77:11I will remember Yah's
deeds; 77:12I will also meditate on all
your work, 77:13Your way, God, is in the
sanctuary. 77:14You are the God who does
wonders. 77:15You have redeemed your
people with your arm, Selah. 77:16The waters saw you, God. 77:17The clouds poured out
water. 77:18The voice of your thunder
was in the whirlwind. 77:19Your way was through the
sea; 77:20You led your people like a
flock, Psalm 78 A contemplation by Asaph. 78:1Hear my law, my people. 78:2I will open my mouth in a
parable. 78:3Which we have heard and
known, 78:4We will not hide them from
their children, 78:5For he established a
testimony in Jacob, 78:6That the generation to come
might know, even the children who should be born; 78:7That they might set their
hope in God, 78:8And might not be as their
fathers, 78:9The children of Ephraim,
being armed and carrying bows, 78:10They didn't keep God's
covenant, 78:11They forgot his doings, 78:12He did marvelous things in
the sight of their fathers, 78:13He split the sea, and
caused them to pass through; 78:14In the daytime he also led
them with a cloud, 78:15He split rocks in the
wilderness, 78:16He brought streams also out
of the rock, 78:17Yet they still went on to
sin against him, 78:18They tempted God in their
heart 78:19Yes, they spoke against
God. 78:20Behold, he struck the rock,
so that waters gushed out, Can he give bread also? 78:21Therefore Yahweh heard, and
was angry. 78:22Because they didn't believe
in God, 78:23Yet he commanded the skies
above, 78:24He rained down manna on
them to eat, 78:25Man ate the bread of
angels. 78:26He caused the east wind to
blow in the sky. 78:27He rained also flesh on
them as the dust; 78:28He let them fall in the
midst of their camp, 78:29So they ate, and were well
filled. 78:30They didn't turn from their
cravings. 78:32For all this they still
sinned, 78:33Therefore he consumed their
days in vanity, 78:34When he killed them, then
they inquired after him. 78:35They remembered that God
was their rock, 78:36But they flattered him with
their mouth, 78:37For their heart was not
right with him, 78:38But he, being merciful,
forgave iniquity, and didn't destroy them. 78:39He remembered that they
were but flesh, 78:40How often they rebelled
against him in the wilderness, 78:41They turned again and
tempted God, 78:42They didn't remember his
hand, 78:43How he set his signs in
Egypt, 78:44Turned their rivers into
blood, 78:45He sent among them swarms
of flies, which devoured them; 78:46He gave also their increase
to the caterpillar, 78:47He destroyed their vines
with hail, 78:48He gave over their cattle
also to the hail, 78:49He threw on them the
fierceness of his anger, 78:50He made a path for his
anger. 78:51And struck all the
firstborn in Egypt, 78:52But he led forth his own
people like sheep, 78:53He led them safely, so that
they weren't afraid, 78:54He brought them to the
border of his sanctuary, 78:55He also drove out the
nations before them, 78:56Yet they tempted and
rebelled against the Most High God, 78:57But turned back, and dealt
treacherously like their fathers. 78:58For they provoked him to
anger with their high places, 78:59When God heard this, he was
angry, 78:60So that he forsook the tent
of Shiloh, 78:61And delivered his strength
into captivity, 78:62He also gave his people
over to the sword, 78:63Fire devoured their young
men; 78:64Their priests fell by the
sword, 78:65Then the Lord awakened as
one out of sleep, 78:66He struck his adversaries
backward. 78:67Moreover he rejected the
tent of Joseph, 78:68But chose the tribe of
Judah, 78:69He built his sanctuary like
the heights, 78:70He also chose David his
servant, 78:71From following the ewes
that have their young, 78:72So he was their shepherd
according to the integrity of his heart, Psalm 79 A Psalm by Asaph. 79:1God, the nations have come
into your inheritance. 79:2They have given the dead
bodies of your servants to be food for the birds of the sky, 79:3Their blood they have shed
like water around Jerusalem. 79:4We have become a reproach to
our neighbors, 79:5How long, Yahweh? 79:6Pour out your wrath on the
nations that don't know you; 79:7For they have devoured Jacob, 79:8Don't hold the iniquities of
our forefathers against us. 79:9Help us, God of our
salvation, for the glory of your name. 79:10Why should the nations say,
"Where is their God?" 79:11Let the sighing of the
prisoner come before you. 79:12Pay back to our neighbors
seven times into their bosom 79:13So we, your people and
sheep of your pasture, Psalm 80 For the Chief Musician. To the tune of "The Lilies of the Covenant." A Psalm by Asaph. 80:1Hear us, Shepherd of Israel, 80:2Before Ephraim and Benjamin
and Manasseh, stir up your might! 80:3Turn us again, God. 80:4Yahweh God of hosts, 80:5You have fed them with the
bread of tears, 80:6You make us a source of
contention to our neighbors. 80:7Turn us again, God of hosts. 80:8You brought a vine out of
Egypt. 80:9You cleared the ground for
it. 80:10The mountains were covered
with its shadow. 80:11It sent out its branches to
the sea, 80:12Why have you broken down
its walls, 80:13The boar out of the wood
ravages it. 80:14Turn again, we beg you, God
of hosts. 80:15The stock which your right
hand planted, 80:16It's burned with fire. 80:17Let your hand be on the man
of your right hand, 80:18So we will not turn away
from you. 80:19Turn us again, Yahweh God
of hosts. Psalm 81 For the Chief Musician. On an instrument of Gath. By Asaph. 81:1Sing aloud to God, our
strength! 81:2Raise a song, and bring here
the tambourine, 81:3Blow the trumpet at the New
Moon, 81:4For it is a statute for
Israel, 81:5He appointed it in Joseph for
a testimony, 81:6"I removed his shoulder
from the burden. 81:7You called in trouble, and I
delivered you. Selah. 81:8"Hear, my people, and I
will testify to you, 81:9There shall be no strange god
in you, 81:10I am Yahweh, your God, 81:11But my people didn't listen
to my voice. 81:12So I let them go after the
stubbornness of their hearts, 81:13Oh that my people would
listen to me, 81:14I would soon subdue their
enemies, 81:15The haters of Yahweh would
cringe before him, 81:16But he would have also fed
them with the finest of the wheat. Psalm 82 A Psalm by Asaph. 82:1God presides in the great
assembly. 82:2"How long will you judge
unjustly, Selah. 82:3"Defend the weak, the
poor, and the fatherless. 82:4Rescue the weak and needy. 82:5They don't know, neither do
they understand. 82:6I said, "You are gods, 82:7Nevertheless you shall die
like men, 82:8Arise, God, judge the earth, Psalm 83 A song. A Psalm by Asaph. 83:1God, don't keep silent. 83:2For, behold, your enemies are
stirred up. 83:3They conspire with cunning
against your people. 83:4"Come," they say,
"and let's destroy them as a nation, 83:5For they have conspired
together with one mind. 83:6The tents of Edom and the
Ishmaelites; 83:7Gebal, Ammon, and Amalek; 83:8Assyria also is joined with
them. Selah. 83:9Do to them as you did to
Midian, 83:10Who perished at Endor, 83:11Make their nobles like Oreb
and Zeeb; 83:12Who said, "Let us take
possession 83:13My God, make them like
tumbleweed; 83:14As the fire that burns the
forest, 83:16Fill their faces with
confusion, 83:17Let them be put to shame
and dismayed forever. 83:18That they may know that you
alone, whose name is Yahweh, Psalm 84 For the Chief Musician. On an instrument of Gath. A Psalm by the sons of Korah. 84:1How lovely are your
dwellings, 84:2My soul longs, and even
faints for the courts of Yahweh. 84:3Yes, the sparrow has found a
home, 84:4Blessed are those who dwell
in your house. Selah. 84:5Blessed are those whose
strength is in you; 84:6Passing through the valley of
Weeping, they make it a place of springs. 84:7They go from strength to
strength. 84:8Yahweh, God of hosts, hear my
prayer. Selah. 84:9Behold, God our shield, 84:10For a day in your courts is
better than a thousand. 84:11For Yahweh God is a sun and
a shield. 84:12Yahweh of Hosts, Psalm 85 For the Chief Musician. A Psalm by the sons of Korah. 85:1Yahweh, you have been
favorable to your land. 85:2You have forgiven the
iniquity of your people. Selah. 85:3You have taken away all your
wrath. 85:4Turn us, God of our
salvation, 85:5Will you be angry with us
forever? 85:6Won't you revive us again, 85:7Show us your lovingkindness,
Yahweh. 85:8I will hear what God, Yahweh,
will speak, 85:9Surely his salvation is near
those who fear him, 85:10Mercy and truth meet
together. 85:11Truth springs out of the
earth. 85:12Yes, Yahweh will give that
which is good. 85:13Righteousness goes before
him, Psalm 86 A Prayer by David. 86:1Hear, Yahweh, and answer me, 86:2Preserve my soul, for I am
godly. 86:3Be merciful to me, Lord, 86:4Bring joy to the soul of your
servant, 86:5For you, Lord, are good, and
ready to forgive; 86:6Hear, Yahweh, my prayer. 86:7In the day of my trouble I
will call on you, 86:8There is no one like you
among the gods, Lord, 86:9All nations you have made
will come and worship before you, Lord. 86:10For you are great, and do
wondrous things. 86:11Teach me your way, Yahweh. 86:12I will praise you, Lord my
God, with my whole heart. 86:13For your lovingkindness is
great toward me. 86:14God, the proud have risen
up against me. 86:15But you, Lord, are a
merciful and gracious God, 86:16Turn to me, and have mercy
on me! 86:17Show me a sign of your
goodness, Psalm 87 A Psalm by the sons of Korah; a Song. 87:1His foundation is in the holy
mountains. 87:3Glorious things are spoken about you, city of God. Selah. 87:4I will record Rahab and
Babylon among those who acknowledge me. 87:5Yes, of Zion it will be said,
"This one and that one was born in her;" 87:6Yahweh will count, when he
writes up the peoples, Selah. 87:7Those who sing as well as
those who dance say, Psalm 88 A Song. A Psalm by the sons of Korah. For the Chief Musician. To the tune of "The Suffering of Affliction." A contemplation by Heman, the Ezrahite. 88:1Yahweh, the God of my
salvation, 88:2Let my prayer enter into your
presence. 88:3For my soul is full of
troubles. 88:4I am counted among those who
go down into the pit. 88:6You have laid me in the
lowest pit, 88:7Your wrath lies heavily on
me. Selah. 88:8You have taken my friends
from me. 88:9My eyes are dim from grief. 88:10Do you show wonders to the
dead? Selah. 88:11Is your lovingkindness
declared in the grave? 88:12Are your wonders made known
in the dark? 88:13But to you, Yahweh, I have
cried. 88:14Yahweh, why do you reject
my soul? 88:15I am afflicted and ready to
die from my youth up. 88:16Your fierce wrath has gone
over me. 88:17They came around me like
water all day long. 88:18You have put lover and
friend far from me, Psalm 89 A contemplation by Ethan, the Ezrahite. 89:1I will sing of the
lovingkindness of Yahweh forever. 89:2I indeed declare, "Love
stands firm forever. 89:3"I have made a covenant
with my chosen one, 89:4'I will establish your seed
forever, Selah. 89:5The heavens will praise your
wonders, Yahweh; 89:6For who in the skies can be
compared to Yahweh? 89:7A very awesome God in the
council of the holy ones, 89:8Yahweh, God of hosts, who is
a mighty one, like you? 89:9You rule the pride of the
sea. 89:10You have broken Rahab in
pieces, like one of the slain. 89:11The heavens are yours. 89:12The north and the south,
you have created them. 89:13You have a mighty arm. 89:14Righteousness and justice
are the foundation of your throne. 89:15Blessed are the people who
learn to acclaim you. 89:16In your name they rejoice
all day. 89:17For you are the glory of
their strength. 89:18For our shield belongs to
Yahweh; 89:19Then you spoke in vision to
your saints, 89:20I have found David, my
servant. 89:21With whom my hand shall be
established. 89:22No enemy will tax him. 89:23I will beat down his
adversaries before him, 89:24But my faithfulness and my
lovingkindness will be with him. 89:25I will set his hand also on
the sea, 89:26He will call to me, 'You
are my Father, 89:27I will also appoint him my
firstborn, 89:28I will keep my
lovingkindness for him forevermore. 89:29I will also make his seed
endure forever, 89:30If his children forsake my
law, 89:31If they break my statutes, 89:32Then I will punish their
sin with the rod, 89:33But I will not completely
take my lovingkindness from him, 89:34I will not break my
covenant, 89:35Once have I sworn by my
holiness, 89:36His seed will endure
forever, 89:37It will be established
forever like the moon, Selah. 89:38But you have rejected and
spurned. 89:39You have renounced the
covenant of your servant. 89:40You have broken down all
his hedges. 89:41All who pass by the way rob him. He has become a reproach to his neighbors. 89:42You have exalted the right
hand of his adversaries. 89:43Yes, you turn back the edge
of his sword, 89:44You have ended his
splendor, 89:45You have shortened the days
of his youth. Selah. 89:46How long, Yahweh? 89:47Remember how short my time
is! 89:48What man is he who shall
live and not see death, Selah. 89:49Lord, where are your former
lovingkindnesses, 89:50Remember, Lord, the
reproach of your servants, 89:51With which your enemies
have mocked, Yahweh, 89:52Blessed be Yahweh forevermore. Amen, and Amen.
BOOK IV Psalm 90 A Prayer by Moses, the man of God. 90:1Lord, you have been our
dwelling place for all generations. 90:3You turn man to destruction,
saying, 90:4For a thousand years in your
sight 90:5You sweep them away as they
sleep. 90:6In the morning it sprouts and
springs up. 90:7For we are consumed in your
anger. 90:8You have set our iniquities
before you, 90:9For all our days have passed
away in your wrath. 90:10The days of our years are
seventy, 90:11Who knows the power of your
anger, 90:12So teach us to number our
days, 90:13Relent, Yahweh! 90:14Satisfy us in the morning
with your lovingkindness, 90:15Make us glad for as many
days as you have afflicted us, 90:16Let your work appear to
your servants; 90:17Let the favor of the Lord
our God be on us; Psalm 91 91:1He who dwells in the secret
place of the Most High 91:2I will say of Yahweh,
"He is my refuge and my fortress; 91:3For he will deliver you from
the snare of the fowler, 91:4He will cover you with his
pinions. 91:5You shall not be afraid of
the terror by night, 91:7A thousand may fall at your
side, 91:8You will only look with your
eyes, 91:9For you, Yahweh, are my
refuge! 91:10No evil shall happen to
you, 91:11For he will give his angels
charge over you, 91:12They will bear you up in
their hands, 91:13You will tread on the lion
and cobra. 91:14"Because he has set
his love on me, therefore I will deliver him. 91:15He will call on me, and I
will answer him. 91:16I will satisfy him with
long life, Psalm 92 A Psalm. A song for the Sabbath day. 92:1It is a good thing to give
thanks to Yahweh, 92:2To proclaim your
lovingkindness in the morning, 92:3With the ten-stringed lute,
with the harp, 92:4For you, Yahweh, have made me
glad through your work. 92:5How great are your works,
Yahweh! 92:6A senseless man doesn't know, 92:7Though the wicked spring up
as the grass, 92:8But you, Yahweh, are on high forevermore. 92:9For, behold, your enemies,
Yahweh, 92:10But you have exalted my
horn like that of the wild ox. 92:11My eye has also seen my
enemies. 92:12The righteous shall
flourish like the palm tree. 92:13They are planted in
Yahweh's house. 92:14They will still bring forth
fruit in old age. He is my rock, Psalm 93 93:1Yahweh reigns! The world also is established. 93:2Your throne is established
from long ago. 93:3The floods have lifted up,
Yahweh, 93:4Above the voices of many
waters, 93:5Your statutes stand firm. Psalm 94 94:1Yahweh, you God to whom
vengeance belongs, 94:2Rise up, you judge of the
earth. 94:3Yahweh, how long will the
wicked, 94:4They pour out arrogant words. 94:5They break your people in
pieces, Yahweh, 94:6They kill the widow and the
alien, 94:7They say, "Yah will not
see, 94:8Consider, you senseless among
the people;
